Film Financing

Northern Ontario has several built-in financing advantages for producers. CION has included information about all major programs below, but don't hesitate to reach out to our Film Programs Supervisor to discuss all relevant options and opportunities, as well as techniques and approaches to maximizing your grants, credits, and loans.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) gives grants to eligible productions with a lucrative funding structure. Find out more about NOHFC’s financing here. This is the most important funding program to consider when shooting in Northern Ontario.

CION’s own fund, the Media Arts Production: Practiced, Employed, Developed (MAPPED), is a production assistance fund, designed to help film and television producers provide on-the-job training to Northern Ontario residents.

While filming in Ontario, your production may qualify for several different tax credits, including a regional bonus if you shoot outside of Toronto. For more information regarding production, post-production and labour tax credits, please contact Ontario Creates or contact our Film Programs and Reporting Supervisor for more information.
