Emilio Portal is a mixed transdisciplinary artist, musician, producer & sound engineer who was born in New Westminster, British Columbia (Qiqayt territory).
Emilio started playing drums in 1995 (at the age of 13). In 2000, he started experimenting in electronic music and sound art. Over the past 20 years, he has performed live & in a studio context with numerous musicians throughout Canada. His musical focus is rooted in Latin & Andean music, jazz, hip hop, improvisation, electroacoustic music tape loops & experimental sound art.
He has had the pleasure of working with numerous artists and organizations including Rebecca Belmore, Peter Morin, Clayton Windatt, Jessica Karuhanga, Elyse Portal, la Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, Open Space, The Ministry of Casual Living, Grunt Gallery, DARC, Bawaadan Collective, Myths & Mirrors, the Fabulous Fringe Festival of Film, On The Edge, La Slague, Up Here, Ontario Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
