Job Title: Communications and Development Officer

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Annual Salary: $50,000-$53,500

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

 

1. ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  • To generate interest in the programs, events and services provided by CION with regional media outlets and the public at large, through public facing channels including social media, newsletter, and CION’s website news stories.
  • To react to inquiries of all kinds from the public, directing requests as needed.
  • To assist in the promotion and play a major role in the facilitation of all CION events (including NOMFA, Cinema Summit, FAM Tours, showcases, workforce development and professional development events, in collaboration with CION’s Programs & Events Officer.
  • To facilitate logistics for key CION programming (i.e. Project Pitch Exchange, NOMFA).
  • To write grants and reports in keeping with CION’s strategic goals.
  • To track and analyze the results of programs, events and services to ensure activities are meeting CION’s key metrics of success.


2. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotion and Media Relations: With oversight from CION’s Sector Development staff, utilize publicly facing platforms including media, social media and newsletters promote CION’s events and professional development activities (Cinema Summit, NOMFA, FAM Tours, Locations Scout Training, showcasing, workforce development, professional development sessions etc.). Utilize these platforms, also promoting Northern Ontario industry success stories. Directing media inquiries and scheduling interview requests with appropriate staff and industry contacts, organizing media releases and media conferences.
  • Public Relations: React to inquiries of all kinds from public facing channels (phone, email, social media), directing the request to the proper source when needed, all while advocating for the industry through stakeholder interactions, online initiatives and outreach.
  • Social Media Strategies: In co-ordination with the Associate Executive Director and CION’s Sector Development staff, oversee the development of paid and organic social media marketing initiatives, ensuring consistent organizational voice and branding. Consistently posting social media content with support from Cinefest’s Graphic Design & Corporate Communications Officer.
  • Website Content Management: Create website news content (program descriptions i.e. NOMFA, Cinema Summit, showcases, FAM Tour); compile content from internal staff and external industry stakeholders (The New Business producer profiles, funding deadlines, other industry content. Coordinate with the Programs & Events & Asset Coordination Officer to develop consistent new content for CION website.
  • Event Logistics Oversight: With oversight from CION’s Sector Development Staff, facilitate participant logistics for events (i.e. NOMFA, Cinema Summit, Project Pitch Exchange), workforce development and professional development sessions (i.e. Film Crew Training Sessions, film and music panels), including guest services outreach activities.
  • Organizational Development: With oversight from the Associate Executive Director, facilitate grant researching, writing and reporting, using tracked measures of success analyze opportunities for future programming and support continued organizational development.
  • Advisory Committee Support: Act as support and secretary during Film & Television Advisory Committee, handling communications, taking meeting minutes and sending agenda items to participating committee members. Assist in timekeeping during quarterly meetings.


4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

There are no day-to-day physical demands associated with the Communications and Development Officer. From time to time there will be setup related to various activities that CION is involved in that will require the Communications and Development Officer’s attention.


5. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

In general, CION operates on a 35-hour work week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch).


6. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The Communications and Development Officer is required to demonstrate the following abilities/knowledge base:

  • The ability to maintain an organized and efficient work environment;
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills;
  • The ability to multitask effectively;
  • The ability to research using online and traditional media;
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office; especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • A high level of initiative and attention to detail;
  • Bilingualism (French and English) will be considered a principal asset.
