Science North’s seventh IMAX production, Jane Goodall’s Reasons for Hope, is a shining example of the skills and professional expertise on offer in Northern Ontario's growing film industry. The new production also offers successful candidates the opportunity to participate in its Skills Share Mentorship Program--an exciting initiative that began with the company's 6th giant-screen film production, Wonders of the Arctic.
The film focuses on a number of remarkable successes in the field of animal conservation, as well as Dr. Goodall's philosophy that every individual has the power to make a difference. Cultural Industries Ontario North is working with Science North to identify new mentorship candidates to work on this exciting project.
Crew Positions
2nd Assistant Cameraperson – 1st Unit (Training/Upgrade)
11 weeks including 5-6 shoot locations – Local, North America, and International
Dates TBC due to COVID-19, but expected to be between Fall 2020 through Fall 2021

This position will allow a Northern Ontario Resident with previous camera experience to work alongside an experienced DOP and 1st Camera Assistant. They will learn a large format 3D system and assist the camera team in documenting the shoot activities. DIT experience is preferred.
- Use of technical skills to capture the creative vision of the Director and Director of Photography
- Set up of camera(s) on location
- Determines and assists the camera work required to effectively capture the shots necessary per the script
- Good understanding of the script story to ensure timely and effective shooting
- Time management/organization
- Assist Director of Photography and 1st Cameraperson as required

Capturing sound on set is a critical role and this film will require crystal clear audio. We are looking for someone that has great experience with location sound recording. The ideal candidate will be looking to elevate their skill set and gain experience in the field of large-format documentaries.
- Work with Director and Assistant Director on set to determine how to address and record the different scenes
- Record film production dialogue and sound
- Maintain sound reports and notify the Director of any sound problems
- Operation of boom mic, carrying of both the recorder and mixer
- Diligent in keeping sound levels consistent
- Creative thinking to solve potential problems
- High attention to detail and concentration for long periods of time
