Johnny Linklater is an emerging Indigenous musician and songwriter from Moosonee, Ontario, now residing in Cochrane, Ontario with his family. He has been a multi-instrumentalist for over 20 years and is the former guitarist and vocalist of Cochrane’s own rock band, Albatross, where he honed his performance skills and developed a deep love for collaborative music-making. Now stepping into the next chapter of his artistic journey, Johnny is focused on cultivating his solo work — drawing from lived experience and a lifelong relationship with music as medicine. He aims to strengthen his songwriting practice, exploring themes of healing, sobriety, and the transformation of intergenerational pain into power through creative expression. Johnny’s work is rooted in a vision of musical storytelling that uplifts Indigenous identity, resilience, and emotional honesty. With every chord and lyric, he seeks not only to heal himself—but to create music that resonates with others on the path of reclamation and recovery.
