STATUS: Open Year-Round
Must apply prior to start of production

CION’s Media Arts Production: Practiced, Employed, Developed (MAPPED) program is a production assistance fund, designed to help film and television producers provide on the job training to Northern Ontario residents looking to work in the industry. With funding from FedNor, MAPPED seeks to supplement existing funding sources in order to hire and train emerging film and television workers by providing partial funding for Northern Ontario crew trainees to a maximum of $10,000* per production.

Building and growing a skilled film and television workforce in Northern Ontario is one of CION's top priorities. MAPPED not only supports productions filming in Northern Ontario but also promotes the growth of a strong and dynamic workforce.

The key points of the program are:

  • Qualifying productions can receive partial funding for up to six (6) Northern Ontario crew trainees to a maximum of $10,000 per production. *Exceptions (up to $20,000) can be made for productions that illustrate a significant impact to the sector and commitment to training.
  • Trainee applicants must be new or emerging in their respective positions; this means they can have no more than two (2) credits totaling six (6) weeks of experience in the position being applied for. The position must be an upgrade within a department or a lateral transition to a new department; please see full guidelines for Northern Ontario priority positions.
  • MAPPED funding may cover up to 25% of the crew trainee’s wages or up to 50% if the applicant is not receiving other government funds. The percentage of MAPPED funding will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

NOTE:
CION encourages applicants to submit their application materials as far in advance of their production start date as possible. Applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the proposed start date of a MAPPED trainee.
