The Amable du Fond River creates the Eau Claire Gorge. The river flows through 60 foot deep sheet rock walls creating a series of rapids and waterfalls. Eventually the gorge widens and winds through a cluster of islands before flowing into Smith Lake. There are no fences or safety features preventing access to the gorge or water. The conservation area consists of 400 acres of wilderness and includes a 2 km trail with loggers cabin.
