Summer Job at the Algoma Conservatory of Music

We have positions open for two Administrative Assistants this summer at the Algoma Conservatory of Music.

Applicants must be full-time students. University/college students preferred, however, high school students will be considered.
Summer position - 7 weeks, 30 hours per week, $12.50 per hour, some flexibility in days and hours, ending in August.  Flexible start and end dates (June through August).
Examples of work required:
Assist with preparation of student materials, clerical work, mailings, summer music camps, Conservatory displays in the community, fundraising campaign, building tours and student demonstrations, organization and maintenance of teaching studios and reception areas (may include some cleaning and painting)
Good communication skills, well-organized, self-motivated, ability to work well with a team of several other students and Conservatory staff, basic computer and typing skills and familiarity with Word and Excel.  While not required an interest in and knowledge of music is an asset, as well as graphic arts skills and access to a vehicle.

Arts Council of Algoma is Now Hiring

The Arts Council of Algoma invites applications for the position of Community Art and Cultural Project Coordinator. The preferred applicant holds a degree in Visual Arts, and/or Anishinaabe/Indigenous Studies or similar experience.  The successful applicant is expected to be self-motivated, possess exemplary communication skills, lead by example, coordinate projects and activities within a traditional indigenous context. Experience in hosting, advertising, coordinating, and establishing educational interactions between indigenous and non-indigenous communities a must. The Project Coordinator will create and nurture art projects aimed at engaging experienced and emerging indigenous and non-indigenous art makers, artists, and community members. Full time position, details can be discussed at interview, expected start date is February 1st.

MUSIC AND FILM IN MOTION: Music and Film in Motion (MFM), a division of the not-for-profit organization Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION), is dedicated to fostering and promoting the music and film industries in Northern Ontario, as well as providing educational programming to cultivate the advancement of Northern Ontario’s emerging talent. MFM works within the boundaries of Northern Ontario, which includes a population of approximately 760,000 people. MFM strives to connect music and film artists and practitioners with opportunities and resources to advance their projects and their careers.  MFM’s ongoing advocacy for Northern Ontario music and film production output is carried out with the primary objective of contributing to the further development of Northern Ontario’s thriving cultural industries.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In this future-focused leadership role, we seek a strategic individual to oversee and contribute to the ongoing development of MFM by maintaining and encouraging new and existing partnerships that will bring passion, expertise and sound judgement to the organization’s mandate and overall vision.

The successful candidate will champion Northern Ontario’s screen-based industries while supporting the advancement of regional economic goals, and act as an unbiased and objective facilitator between industry and government.


-Reactive Film Inquiries: respond promptly to all inquiries related to film, television and media arts production

-Proactive Film Production: attend annual conferences in order to pitch Northern Ontario as a production-friendly region and secure inbound productions

-Database Management: manage a crew and company database and monthly production hot list; oversee development of local film production company database, locations database and industry calendar

-Community Relations: liaise with various agencies, organizations, associations and municipalities to establish and/or streamline permitting processes

-Strategic Marketing: develop MFM’s sales pitch and work with Marketing & Communications to manage the initiative’s promotional strategy

-Website Management: manage the organization’s website as the central portal for any Northern Ontario film initiatives

-Public Relations: create media exposure for Northern Ontario production related success stories

-Spokesperson: serve as MFM’s spokesperson and point person on film / TV production side, as needed

-Advisory Committee Liaison: oversee the membership of the initiative’s advisory committee and lead quarterly meetings

-Partnership Relations: work in tandem with other production based organizations / associations, etc., including municipal Economic Development Corporations; Ontario Media Development Corporation, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, various unions, to maximize marketing efforts and industry development and to discuss industry progress and associated strategies

-Budget Management: plan, track, and reconcile the initiative’s annual budget

-Key Success Objectives: monitor, track, and report on key success objectives, including: website traffic, productions hosted, and estimated economic impact from productions
